Work this week consisted of the start of a project on the 8th hole. To start, all the brush, vines undergrowth, and undesirable trees were removed from the creek area from the bridge down to the small rock wall located in the woods.

Once all the clearing was complete the real fun could begin. Leaves were removed and the tractor was taken through removing stumps, grading, and preparing the area for seed in the spring. The rough will be extended in this area by an average of 30 feet depending on area. This work should provide the opportunity to play a recovery shot, speed up play, and also allow golfers to determine if they are in the hazard or not. The amount of balls we found as we cleared this area was astronomical.

We will be finishing up the prep work to the creek on 8 next week weather permitting. The actual creek/waterway needs to be cleaned and we have some more prep work to do to the far bank of the creek. Brush and trees that were removed will be chipped as part of spring cleanup. In the spring this area will be sprayed, loamed, and seeded.

We have a good deal of storm damage scattered through the course from winter storm Elliot. Currently the golf course is very soft and we are waiting until we have drier and firmer conditions to begin cleanup. Our goal is to get cleaned up in a timely fashion, but most importantly we need to minimize the impact to the golf course.

We had some very rainy and raw work days this week. In times of real inclement weather the crew concentrated on tee marker refurbishment.

In conclusion, we also finished cutting down brush and clearing the area around the 7th tee. This was yearly maintenance to ensure all the tee space can be utilized and the rock outcroppings are visible from the green.
