Congratulations to team Canada on their Ryder Cup victory

Another Ryder Cup has come and gone. Greens were rolling a few inches either side of 12 feet for all three days of the tournament. This is a good tournament speed for our undulating greens. Sure we could have made them faster, but we really wanted speed to stay consistent all three days. We were able to make it through the hot and dry conditions with virtually no water on greens which helped with maintaining their firmness and consistency. We also dried out fairways both intentionally and with natures help. We had a fair amount of catch up work to do on Sunday afternoon/evening and second assistant Michael Curtin and I worked into the late evening. Catch up on fairways and other turf areas went into Monday morning. Some much needed rainfall also helped this week.

After some rain we took advantage in the break from hand watering and checking moisture to catch up on some broadleaf weed spraying. We were mostly after clover and assistant Kevin Bird treated approximately 6 acres of rough. Kevin concentrated on tee banks, clubhouse areas, and around the driving range, but targeted a variety of other spots in his travels.

Irrigation tech Marcelo worked on adding another fairway quick coupler to the 18 fairway. This coupler is located just past the fairway bunker and is the third coupler on this fairway. We now can virtually add water via hand watering to any location on this fairway and will also allow us to hand water the area we are renovating just past the fairway bunker. My staff's goal is to add at least one quick coupler a week to the system over the next 6 weeks. Our end goal is to have two to three quick couplers on every fairway to aid in water management and help in providing better playing conditions.

Some work was also done to the bunkers on 3 to improve the visual from the top of the hill. Sand was removed from the bunker edges to locate the liner. Once liner was found the bunkers were edged out to the liner edge and sand was added to the bunkers. The front left and back bunker have been completed. The right bunker is currently being worked on.

In closing, I have received a few questions about the water level in the 5th pond. Currently the well that feeds the irrigation pond is out of commission. This was discovered on Thursday morning and by noon time on Thursday we had a well company on property looking at the logistics. We have rain probable on Saturday and our irrigation requirements for the next few days appear like they will be light. The well will be addressed on Tuesday or Wednesday of next week as we are working out the final logistics (access to the well). I am not a bit nervous on pond level and once the well is back and operational we will be fine. As always, when the problem was mentioned to corporate the immediate go ahead on it's repair was granted.
