We had a winter type setting for a day!

This week we spent most of our time finishing up the work to the creek on 8. The creek itself was cleaned, the remaining vegetation removed, and the existing rock wall was rebuilt. We have taken this area as far as we can this winter. We will spray the area in the spring, loam, and then seed.

Below is a gallery of pictures from the creek on 8:

The rest of the week we spent in the area to the left of one (from tee to beginning of fairway). Brush cutting has been performed and debris from recent storms is being moved out for chipping. Some tree removal and pruning has taken place in this area as well. We have a few more dead trees to remove from this area. Once the winter portion of this work is complete the crew will blow and clean this area in the spring. We have plans to set up a maintenance line where mowing and some spraying will take place as we look to improve this area.

In times of inclement weather tee marker refurbishment was continued. Once painting is complete we will start the process of replacing damaged markers and making spares.

Fleet maintenance continues

While always avoiding the camera, this is mechanic's Glenn Skelley's busiest time of year. Maintenance will be performed to every piece of equipment in the fleet and all cutting units will be sharpened. Winter maintenance work starts in late November and will continue until the end of March.

Our Audubon recertification has been submitted and we should hear back on our recertification status in 4 to 5 weeks. A special thanks to Michael Curtin on the work he put into this regardless of what happens with recertification. One Audubon project we will be doing this winter if and when we become snow bound is the building of some wood duck nesting boxes. These will be installed on the backside of the 6th green pond and the back marshy area of the irrigation pond.

Speaking of the irrigation pond many members have mentioned to me about the beaver dam located across route 1 on the opposite side of our entrance sign. Mass DOT has been working on the issue and hopefully the flow source back into the irrigation pond will soon be established again.

Weather early next week currently looks favorable. Our goals for outside work will be to finish up on the left of one and start some tree and brush removal on 14 and around 15 purple tee. Storm cleanup is still on hold until we have some firmer conditions on the golf course.
