Below is a brief update on some of the recent project work that has been completed or underway around the golf course.
Cart Path Paving on 9:
Two corners of cart path on the 9th hole were paved this Monday by Atlantic Paving. These two sections were redone to better facilitate cart traffic off of the 9th fairway. Now that the paths have been fixed we will be prepping the edges for sod. We will likely prep and sod the two areas one at a time. This will allow carts to exit the 9th fairway at the other corner while the sod establishes in the first. In the meantime, some temporary ramps have been made along the cart edges for carts reentering the cart path.
New Fescue Areas:
Two areas are currently being prepped for fescue seed or sod. The first one is the area directly to the right of the 1st forward tee. We have been clearing this area out when time allowed over the last few seasons. Originally it was completely overgrown with brush and logs from fallen trees. The prep work on this area has almost been completed with some additional loam and irrigation work left. We will likely be seeding this area with fescue seed in the early fall.
A smaller area behind the 3rd white tee has also been getting prepped for sod. This area was previously an overgrown mess that was removed last off season. This area will be a continuation of the fescue that was grown above the 2nd green this season. We will be sodding this area with fine fescue sod in the near future. Sod is currently scheduled to be delivered on 9/10.
8th White Tee:
The new 8th white tee was double aerated, top-dressed, and over-seeded this week. A new variety of bentgrass that performs well at tee height and in shady areas was interseeded as well. This work will also encourage additional root growth from the young turf.
Upcoming Project Areas:
Work to an area near cart parking for the 1st white tee will likely begin shortly. The work will be the same thing that was done near the 1st gold/blue tee. We do not currently have a timeline for when this will be completed but the initial work of cutting out the area may begin soon.
As always project work around the golf course is dependent on current course conditions, recent weather, and our available water. Growing and establishing turf necessitates a significant increase in water usage to the areas in question. We are still managing our water supply judiciously. We have experienced well below precipitation now for June, July, and August. Tee and approach aerations as well as rough seeding will start as soon as we are comfortable with our water storage supply.
