It was another busy week of maintenance on the golf course and a good deal of work was completed. Some of our focus has begun to shift from seeding to getting the golf course ready for winter.

Below is some of the work that was completed this week:

  • Fairways were sprayed with fungicide and plant growth regulators (PGR's)

  • Greens were sprayed with fungicide and fertility

  • Tees were sprayed with fungicide, fertility, and plant growth regulators (PGR's)

  • Fairways were fertilized with a 16-0-20 granular product to further help with the drought recovery and supply some K to the plant as we go into winter.

  • Tees were aerated (only 5,6,7 tee complexes are left)

  • Cart path removal area on 14 was finish graded and seeded

  • Large tree removal area on left of 18 was finish graded and seeded.

  • Driving range tee was overseeded

  • The second round of fairway seeding was completed

The sod to finish the area that was cut out on 15 is scheduled to be delivered on Monday, October 3rd. Hope is to have all the sod installed by mid day on Wednesday. We have a large outing on Monday and a Women's invitational on Tuesday that will slow the install down.

We will be continuing to seed fairways, but are starting to get on the late side for bentgrass establishment. We will still be able to germinate seed, but winter hardiness will be an issue. We also have a few rough areas we hope to address next week. Our new seeder is still not in but will be a game changer in the future.

The next project that the crew will be working on is loaming and seeding of the area above the sod on the left of the 15th green surround. This is a tough area to work in as we are in the line of fire and blind to the golfers on the fairway. Hopefully we can devote some mornings to this area next week.

We are entering the time of year where bunker maintenance does not occur every day. This is not a budget or labor supply issue. Bunkers will start filling with debris. First pine needles and acorns, then the onslaught of leaves. In order to rake bunkers, the bunker most be cleaned first. This is quite the time and staff consuming operation. We simply can not complete daily or other maintenance to the golf course would suffer.

We will close with a few pictures from the week:
